Kenny McGuinn

Kenny’s barbering story began in childhood, when he and his cousin would cut each other’s hair after growing frustrated with outdated styles from their neighborhood barber. By the time he graduated high school, Kenny was already cutting proficiently—but he initially pursued a career in the restaurant industry, eventually working his way up to executive chef at Molly Brannigan’s in Uptown Mount Lebanon.

During the infamous “Snowmageddon” of February 2010, while on vacation, Kenny received a stressful corporate phone call about why Pittsburgh restaurants were closed due to the storm. In that moment, he realized the restaurant grind was no longer worth the stress. He thought to himself, “No one rushes a guy with a straight razor.” That thought pushed him to finally pursue barbering full time.

Kenny graduated from barber school in 2011 and worked in a shop until 2014, when he decided to open his own: McGuinn’s Barbershop. Only then did he discover his family’s rich barbering legacy, his uncle Ron had opened a shop 25 years earlier in Munhall, and his uncle Tom had opened his 50 years earlier in Homestead. Kenny takes great pride in knowing his family has been providing top-notch barbering services to Pittsburgh for over 60 years.
